Oxadiargyl is a highly effective pre-emergence and early post-emergence herbicide belonging to the PPO inhibitor (diphenyl ether class). It is widely used for controlling annual broadleaf weeds and some grass weeds in rice, wheat, barley, onion, garlic, and other crops.
Oxadiargyl works as a PPO inhibitor (Protoporphyrinogen Oxidase inhibitor):
Inhibits PPO enzyme activity in target weeds
Leads to accumulation of protoporphyrin IX in plant cells
Causes oxidative damage under light conditions
Destroys cell membranes, resulting in rapid weed death
Visible effects usually appear within 2–5 days after application.
✔ Broad-spectrum control – Effective against many annual broadleaf weeds and some grasses
✔ Rapid action – Quickly stops weed growth, improving crop establishment
✔ Residual soil activity – Suppresses new weed emergence for longer periods
✔ Selective and safe for crops – Compatible with rice, wheat, barley, onion, garlic, and other registered crops
✔ Low resistance risk – Unique mode of action, suitable for rotation with other herbicides
⚠ Apply pre-emergence or at early seedling stage for optimal results
⚠ Avoid spray drift to sensitive crops
⚠ Not recommended under stress conditions (drought, extreme heat, waterlogging)
⚠ Follow registered crops, dosage, and local regulations strictly
